Beth Tzedec Congregation has re-evaluated our COVID-19 protocols following the decisions of Calgary City Council and the Government of Alberta to end mandatory mask mandates.
Our congregation is a diverse one, and we recognize that congregants have varying comfort levels when it comes to COVID risks and protocols.
At the same time, the Beth Tzedec leadership feels a keen responsibility to protect the well-being of all congregants, staff and guests, especially those most at risk of adverse outcomes should they contract COVID-19; this includes the elderly, those with underlying health conditions and those who are unvaccinated.
We are therefore proceeding with an abundance of caution as we honour the central tenet of Judaism—to choose life.
At this time, we urge everyone to:
- Pre-register for in-person attendance at all Beth Tzedec programs, events and religious services. (Contact us at least 24 hours in advance at 403-255-8688 or info@bethtzedec.ca.)
- Self screen for any symptoms of illness prior to visiting Beth Tzedec. Please stay at home if you are not feeling 100 percent well.
- Wear a mask when visiting the office and/or attending all synagogue programs including prayer services.
- With the exception of those leading prayer services and chanting Haftarot, everyone who is given an honour must wear a mask the entire time they are on the bimah.
- Sanitize hands frequently.
- Maintain physical distance.
The vast majority of congregants and guests who have visited Beth Tzedec during the pandemic have embraced the necessary COVID protocols and respected frontline staff tasked with keeping us safe. Unfortunately, there have been some exceptions; we must therefore remind everyone that Beth Tzedec has zero tolerance for abusive behaviour.
Todah rabah for your continued support as we take prudent steps toward increasing in-person activities at Beth Tzedec. We look forward to lessening the isolation we have all been feeling while, at the same time, striving to keep one another safe.
Whether you choose to join us in person or online, we are grateful for your participation in synagogue life and look forward to welcoming you often!
