What’s Rabbi Reading? The Beth Tzedec Book Club

June 25, 2026 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for lively conversation, good company, and great food as we explore Jewish literature together. In June, we’ll be discussing Songs for the Broken Hearted by Ayelet Tsabari.

In this powerful debut novel, award-winning author Ayelet Tsabari weaves together family secrets, love, loss, and identity across generations and continents. Moving between 1950s Israel and 1990s New York, the story follows Zohara, a Yemeni Israeli woman returning home after her mother’s death, where she uncovers long-buried truths about her family, her heritage, and herself.

Richly layered and emotionally resonant, Songs for the Brokenhearted examines the experiences of Yemeni Jewish immigrants in Israel, the tensions between tradition and reinvention, and the complicated bonds between mothers and daughters. Join us for an evening of thoughtful conversation about this moving and deeply human novel.
