I Draw Them The Best I Can

Canada 2026 | Directors: Jamie Michaels & Liam Karp | English | 42 minutes
Documentary
In this very creative and beautifully crafted documentary, filmmakers Jamie Michaels and Liam Karp sensitively tell the story of Canadian Holocaust survivor Adam Policzer. Only 5 years old when Germany invaded Hungary in 1944, Adam was hidden by neighbours and watched from across the street as his family was taken away. After being denounced and discovered, he began a remarkable journey of survival. While recounting his childhood memories and the inter-generational impact these experiences have had on his family, the film explores how making art has helped Adam confront his traumatic past and find healing: His recently published memoir, The House Across the Street, uses Adam’s own hand-drawn images to tell his story – in comics form.
