Today, in an era where difficult truths about the past are being silenced by a right-wing Polish government that seeks to deny any Polish complicity in the Holocaust, Among Neighbors investigates the story of a small, rural town where the longstanding peaceful co-existence between Jews and Polish-Catholic neighbours was shattered by World War II. Combining magical realism and evocative hand-drawn animation with revelatory interviews and verité footage, the film focuses on the only living Holocaust survivor from the town, and an aging eyewitness who, six months after the war had ended, saw Jews murdered there – not by Nazis, but by her own Polish neighbours. Produced and directed by award-winning filmmaker Yoav Potash, this powerful documentary uncovers accounts of love, betrayal, and a silenced and disturbing history.
