SUMMARY:Family Purim Carnival
DESCRIPTION:Grab your costumes and get ready for one of our most joyful traditions of the year! Our annual Family Purim Carnival is back\, bringing an afternoon packed with games\, laughter\, sweet treats\, and Purim fun for kids (and grown-ups!) of all ages. From carnival classics to festive activities inspired by the Purim story\, this is your chance to celebrate together\, connect with friends\, and make colourful memories as a community. Come for the fun and stay for the joy! \nRegistration required. There is no charge to attend\, but we ask that all participants bring a non-perishable donation for Wynne’s Pantry (Miriam’s Well). Purim is about more than fun costumes and sweet treats! This is the perfect opportunity to teach children about Matanot L’evyonim\, giving to those in need\, and our obligations to care for one another. \nHelp spread the holiday magic by volunteering! We’re always looking for community members willing to help support the family fun at our Purim Carnival. Contact jgirvitz@bethtzedec.ca for more information. \n\n\n \n \n Purim Carnival Registration\n \n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n PhoneNumber of Adults(Required)Please enter a number from 1 to 10.Number of Children(Required)Please enter a number from 1 to 10.Please tell us about the children who will be attending.(Required)NameAgeGrade    Add RemoveClick the plus sign to the right of this field to add spaces for more children.checkboxes\n \n I consent to allowing Beth Tzedec to take and share photos of everyone I am registering for this event.\n Supporting Family EventsThere is NO CHARGE to attend this event. SUMMARY:Hazak Lunch & Learn: Exhibiting Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:At our March Hazak Lunch & Learn\, Brandon Hearty will draw on his experience developing two major exhibitions—Violins of Hope and One Thread\, Six Million Lives—to explore how history\, memory\, and material culture come together in public storytelling. Brandon will reflect on the research\, creative choices\, and ethical responsibilities involved in translating Holocaust history into accessible\, meaningful exhibitions\, while expanding on the themes and stories presented in each. Join us for a thoughtful conversation about remembrance\, education\, and the power of exhibitions to foster understanding and community. \nAbout the Speaker \nBrandon Hearty is a Calgary-based cultural professional and community volunteer with a strong commitment to Holocaust remembrance\, education\, and civic engagement. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Brigham Young University and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Calgary. His academic training in the arts has equipped him with a broad skill set grounded in research\, visual storytelling\, and public engagement. \nHe first became involved with Calgary’s Jewish community two years ago through the Violins of Hope exhibit at the National Music Centre\, where he served as Manager of Exhibition Development. Now working at Contemporary Calgary\, Brandon continues to volunteer his time and talents in service of the community motivated by a commitment to collective memory and education. Most recently\, he played a key role in producing the One Thread\, Six Million Lives exhibit at the Central Library in honour of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. \n\n \n \n Hazak Lunch & Learn\n \n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n PhoneWhich session are you registering for?Thursday\, May 7 — Sahbra Anna MarkusWe're always looking for new speakers who want to teach us about their work or passions. SUMMARY:What’s Rabbi Reading? The Beth Tzedec Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Join us each month at Masala Art for lively conversation\, good company\, and great food as we explore Jewish literature together. The Beth Tzedec Book Club is open to all who love reading and discussing stories\, history\, and ideas through a Jewish lens. \nIn March\, we’ll be reading The Madwoman in the Rabbi’s Attic: Rereading the Women of the Talmud by Gila Fine. \nWhile women in the Talmud are often marginal and unnamed\, Fine focuses on six named heroines—Yalta\, Homa\, Marta\, Heruta\, Beruria\, and Ima Shalom—who seem to embody familiar antifeminist archetypes. Through close\, literary rereading\, she reveals far more complex characters and uncovers surprisingly nuanced rabbinic perspectives on marriage\, intimacy\, and women’s lives. In the process\, Fine challenges us to rethink not only these ancient stories\, but also how we read texts—and how we see one another. \n\n \n \n Book Club Registration\n Please register once for each session you plan to join. \n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Phone(Required)There is NO CHARGE to join Beth Tzedec's Book Club.
