STITCHERS: TAPESTRY OF SPIRIT
This award-winning short documentary chronicles the inspiring journey behind one woman’s ambitious project to write a complete Torah – in cross stitch. Launched by Torontonian Temma Gentles, an internationally renowned textile artist, “Torah Stitch by Stitch” invites participants to engage with words of Torah in a collaborative and socially inclusive textile art project aimed at promoting cooperation and understanding. Over 1,500 stitchers of different faiths and cultural backgrounds from 28 countries around the world are each stitching a portion in the hope that the final work, with full text in Hebrew and hundreds of illuminations, will become an inspiring traveling museum exhibit. A number of women from the Rimon Calgary Judaic Needlework Guild have participated in this meaningful artistic legacy project which, when completed, will represent over 150,000 hours of collaborative work.
