Dr. Angy Cohen, Post Doctoral Associate in Israel Studies, U of C

Meet Dr. Angy Cohen, the Dr. Jenny and Hy Belzberg Postdoctoral Associate in Israel Studies, Department of Anthropology and Archaeology, University of Calgary. Angy will be speaking about Egyptian-Jewish writer and journalist Jacqueline Shohet Kahanoff (1917–1979), who moved to Israel in her mid-thirties.  Learn about Kahanoff’s narrative essays, her youth in colonial Egypt, and her observations as an Egyptian immigrant in Israel in the 1950s who urged the Mediterranean country to embrace “Levantinism” as its cultural identity.
