From the obscurity of the archives where it had languished and been forgotten for decades, six hours of never-before-seen footage of an interview with one of modern history’s greatest leaders, David Ben-Gurion, was inadvertently uncovered recently. The then 82-year-old former prime minister, in his final years after leaving office, had been interviewed at his secluded home in the Negev desert over the course of several days in 1968. Interweaving segments of the restored interview with newsreels and other archival materials, this illuminating documentary offers a rare and intimate portrait of Israel’s founding father, as the introspective elder statesman reflects candidly on his personal life, his political legacy, the Zionist enterprise, and his vision and hopes for Middle East peace.
